BMW 7 Series
The BMW 7 Series has always been the top end BMW produced.
When comparing with other car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and
Audi, the 7 Series is the same range as the S-Class, the XJ and the A8 models
respectively. The picture above shows all the 7 Series models ever produced
until the current model.
Though I’m not much of a BMW fan, one particular 7 Series
that has always attracted my attention is the E38 (pic above). Those of you who
are fans of James Bond (which I obviously am), will remember this beauty. The
car featured in ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ was a 750i which was a V12! There were at
least 6 different gasoline engine variations produced for this model which
included the 2.8 litre 6 cylinder, the 4 litre V8 and of course the 5.4 litre
V12. There also a few variations of the diesel engines produced. Some of the
models came with the long wheel base (LWB) variation as well as a rare L7 model
limousine which I’ve never seen on our local roads yet.
Looking for one to buy? Prices for the E38 start just around
RM 20k but remember, you got to make sure you have enough money to maintain the
car as well as to pay for the high road tax especially for the higher capacity
models. There are also many models converted to Japanese engines, but it’ll be
better to get one with the original engine in it or at least a BMW engine.
Below is an excerpt from James Bond’s 'Tomorrow Never Dies'
and the one below that is the BMW short film ‘Ambush’ where this model was
featured.

Saturday Meet Up Session
I’m sure most of you would have had a good weekend
especially for those Christians celebrating Good Friday and Easter. Me and a
few friends decided to have a meet up for breakfast on Saturday morning just to
bring our hobby cars out. Although they were mostly modified cars which
included Toyota Supras, Honda Type-R, a Lancer GT as well as a well-modded
Nissan Sentra, my Jaguar was the sole classic car to be present as I’m yet to
get my modded car or super car (hoping to get one soon!! :p ).
It was a good day and the weather was great and of course we
had a good time too. A breakfast which was supposed to take an hour took 3
hours, so naturally it was a time that we enjoyed. There are a few photos below
of some of the cars present. Do enjoy although the quality is a little bad.

Mercedes-Benz W124 230CE
We’re back on the Mercedes-Benz theme again. Like I said I have a fascination for them among others. Today I would like to talk about the Mercedes Benz W124 230CE or also known as C124 which denotes coupe. The ‘CE’ which it was commonly known as was part of the family of one of their best selling models produced by Mercedes-Benz, the W124 E-class. The ‘CE’ was basically the 2-door version (coupe) of the ‘E’. Some models even came as cabriolets which although they are rare to come by but once in a while you may just bump into one.
I basically ended up owning one of these beauties early last
year after getting a call from an uncle of mine who wanted to sell his. It was
a 1988 Mercedes-Benz 230CE and he was only the second owner. Though only having
two owners and the last which was my uncle who had it for 18 years, the car
wasn’t really used much as he was too busy to drive it as he also had a few
other cars. Being a car that was most of the time sleeping, there were
naturally some faults in it that needed looking into.
Then of course I ended up buying it and then work on it
started as I needed to sort out a few mechanical and electrical faults on the
car and the car also badly needed a new paint job and the list just went on but
shortly after that I had set my eyes on a Mercedes-Benz W108 and then the
decision to keep or sell the CE had to be done and I made the decision to push
off the CE to make way for the W108 which was a good decision and one that I’ve
never regretted.

Bentley Turbo R
The Bentley
Turbo R… hhmmmm… It sure does sound fast with the word ‘Turbo’ in it and you
know what, it actually is. Just by looking at the engine compartment picture
above with the word ‘Turbo’ on the air intake will give all you speed junkies
the shivers. The Bentley Turbo models were the fastest, high-performance models
that were built by Bentley. During its 12 year production period from 1985 –
1997, there were only less than 8,000 units built worldwide and this certainly
makes this a rare one for those who appreciate Bentleys of that time.
There were
some minor updates done on the 90s models which included adding air-bags. Having
sat in an 80s model (wished I had driven it but unfortunately the car was being
repaired), I must say it’s got one of the most gorgeous interiors a car can
ever have especially at the driver’s position. It’s just got that ‘you are in
control feeling’ once you are at the driver seat and though at one look it may
look like your everyday Bentley of the same era but the front lights, the
grille as well as the badge at the rear boot which says ‘Turbo R’ certainly
differentiates it from the rest.
Some time
back I watched an episode of JayLenosGarage (attached below) and not surprising, he had the
Bentley Turbo R in his collection. And so, there’s an episode where he actually
reviews the car and my oh my I must say, it’s one big Bentley with one big
heart in it. Even at this moment as I’m sitting and writing this article I feel
like just driving one. Imagine the torque and power from that 6.75 litre V8
turbo-charged engine... sigh.. I’m sure all those of you speed lovers will
understand what I mean.

Ferrari 308
When I was
growing up, I had few dream cars in the various categories. My dream luxury
sedan was of course a Jaguar and my dream four-wheel drive was a Range Rover.
Though the two cars are British brands, my dream sports-car as you guessed was
Italian, and it was a Ferrari. Two of my favourite modern Ferraris are the 360
and the 430 but my favourite older Ferrari was a 308.
The Ferrari
308 was probably one of the most iconic Ferrari’s ever in the late 70s and
early 80s due to it being the car used by Tom Selleck in the hit series
‘Magnum, P.I.’. There were two models of the Ferrari 308 produced, the 308 GTB
and the 308 GTS which was a targa-topped model. The 308 was first introduced in
1975 and up to 1985 when production stopped, they were about 12,000 units
built. The initial few years of the production, the car bodies were made out of
fibreglass and then back to steel in the subsequent years.
The Ferrari
308 is not to be confused with the Dino 308 GT4 as they were two entirely
different models with different engines and were even designed by different
design houses. The Ferrari 308 was as expected designed by Pininfarina and just
for some added knowledge here not related to Ferrari, Jaguar had also employed
the services of Pininfarina to redesign the Jaguar XJ Series 2 and it became
the Jaguar XJ Series 3. All models of the Ferrari 308 came with 3 litre V8
engines which were carburettor powered models and fuel-injected for the later
models.
The first
Ferrari 308 that I saw here was a 308 GTS targa top somewhere early last year
and even though it was an old model about 30 years old, it still turned heads
and also mainly because this particular car was a very well kept one. The
pictures here are of that particular car and it’s definitely a stunner even in real life.
