Jaguar E-Type Series I (updates)

After a long hiatus and finally having the time and mood to sit down and do another article, I will be somewhat reviewing a car which I’ve reviewed before, but this time she has gone through some changes. Over the period, I’ve managed to ‘rub shoulders’ and take some shots with a number of very nice cars which were in car shows as well as in personal collections. But after pending for so long, I’ve decided to do this article first.

This article is about none other than the Jaguar E-Type Series I as per the title suggests. This Jaguar E-Type Series I has been reviewed before somewhere last year and after that it was sent in by the owner for some major changes and the most obvious one being it’s new colour. I will not be posting too many photos of the whole car as I’ll be only concentrating on the updates and upgrades that were done on this car.

The first major change as mentioned earlier is the colour. It was changed from white to a bright red. Compared to it’s earlier colour, this red will certainly get your head turning even when you notice the car from afar and when coupled with it’s equally attractive red interior, the car is definitely a ‘red’ head turner if you know what I mean :) You’d be surprised at the details the paintjob was done in. As one would expect is that the engine bay would have been emptied to enable the spraying to be done but this was not the case. As the engine bay photos show, the paintjob done in the engine bay is excellent. 

The other notable change the car has had was its brand new Bell exhaust system all the way for the United Kingdom. As for the rest, I will just let your eyes feast on it’s latest colour and it’s detail. The owner is still planning for further upgrades in the near future and I would definitely keep you guys posted. Till my next write up, which I hope will be soon.

Jaguar E-Type Series I

Well, Christmas is just one day away and as per my word that I would do a few write-ups on some rare and interesting automobiles this month, here is another. I started off this month with an ultra-rare 1926 Rolls-Royce Twenty Tourer and so here is another rare beauty and back to the topic of my beloved Jaguars of course, the Jaguar E-Type. It’s actually been overdue for some time for me to write an article on this car but my initial plan was to write to write about the E-Type Series 1, 2 and 3 in one article but unfortunately I haven’t got any good shots of the Series 2 and the Series 3 yet hence, I’ve decided to just split the articles into the three different ones.

The history of Jaguar

The name Jaguar back in the days was always associated with speed. The origins of Jaguar can be traced back to a company, the Swallow Sidecar Company that began by making motorcycle sidecars in 1922 under the stewardship of William Lyons (later Sir William Lyons) and William Walmsley. The Swallow Sidecar Company later started building automobiles and moved to Coventry, switching its name to Jaguar after the Second World War. It produced premium saloons and sports cars, including the legendary XK120.

Adding to Jaguar’s reputation was its motorsport success in the 1950s, winning the Le Mans 24 Hours race twice with a C-type – in 1951 and again in 1953 – and then with a D-type in 1955, 1956 and 1957. In 1961, the company launched what became perhaps the most iconic sports cars of all time, the E-type. In 1968 it merged with BMC (British Motor Corporation), which later became part of British Leyland and included Rover.

After splitting from British Leyland, Jaguar became independent again in the 1980s, before being purchased by Ford in 1989. In 2008, Jaguar and Land Rover were bought by Tata Motors, India’s biggest car maker, and officially joined together as one company in 2013. Sales and profits have risen year on year, with more exciting chapters in the histories of these two brands still to be written.

Jaguar Land Rover is a company that brings together two much loved, highly prestigious British car brands. After Tata Motors acquired Jaguar and Land Rover from Ford in 2008, it merged the two marques into a single company and its success has flourished, with memorable vehicles and innovative technologies that add to a long-lasting legacy.

Private Treaty Sales 2014 #1

A few days back, my good friend Jon texted me about the Private Treaty Sales happening at the Bangsar Shopping Centre and of course we decided to go and have a look. We had read an article stating that 2 of the cars had been sold, one being a Mercedes-Benz W126 560SEC and the other a Mercedes-Benz W123 280CE.

There were a few cars for sale there namely the Jaguar E-type as well as a rare Mercedes-Benz W121 190SL roadster (pic above). They were also other cars such as a rare Datsun 240Z and the Porsche 356A Coupe but the Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz naturally caught my eye. And not surprising some of the cars were actually sold or booked as some of the prices were actually not too bad at all. Aston Martin Kuala Lumpur was also present with two of their cars, the Vantage and the Vanquish and some of you may remember the Vanquish aka The Vanish in the James Bond movie ‘Die Another Day’.
