Well,
Christmas is just one day away and as per my word that I would do a few
write-ups on some rare and interesting automobiles this month, here is another.
I started off this month with an ultra-rare 1926 Rolls-Royce Twenty Tourer and
so here is another rare beauty and back to the topic of my beloved Jaguars of
course, the Jaguar E-Type. It’s actually been overdue for some time for me to
write an article on this car but my initial plan was to write to write about
the E-Type Series 1, 2 and 3 in one article but unfortunately I haven’t got any
good shots of the Series 2 and the Series 3 yet hence, I’ve decided to just
split the articles into the three different ones.

The History of Lamborghini
Ferruccio Lamborghini (pic below) was born in
Italy in 1916. He was fascinated with engines from an early age. During World
War II he joined the army and was stationed on the island of Rhodes.
Fortunately there was little going on there during the war. The island
was essentially isolated from the rest of the world. Any cars, trucks or
motorcycles that broke down had to be repaired on the spot with reused
parts. Lamborghini became known as a wizard at mechanical
improvisation and became very much in demand at fixing engines.

1926 Rolls-Royce Twenty Tourer
December is
certainly a month many of us look forward to. One is because it’s the holiday
season and the other is naturally because it’s Christmas and I celebrate
Christmas. And here at Your Dream Auto, we are also going to be giving you
interesting articles of very rare and interesting cars for you to look forward
to, so sit back and keep coming back to follow our updates. And here it is, for
our first post for the month of December, an ultra rare 1926 Rolls-Royce Twenty
Tourer of which we have a fine example right here in Malaysia.
At one
glance, the Rolls-Royce Twenty Tourer will look like a typical automobile from
it’s era but once you get closer to it you will realise that a Rolls-Royce will
always be a Rolls-Royce (enthusiasts will know what I mean). And also do bear
in mind that this particular car was built before Rolls-Royce acquired Bentley
(check out our earlier write-up on ‘The difference between a classic Rolls-Royce and a classic Bentley’) so which means that they were not sharing DNAs
yet.
This
particular Rolls-Royce was one of only three lightweight tourers ever built by
the Connaught Coachbuilders. As with most vintage cars during this time, only
the chassis was built by the manufacturer in this case Rolls-Royce and the body
was made and fitted by coachbuilders. The engine was a 3.1 litre (3,127 cc to
be exact), Rolls-Royce inline 6 cylinder mated with a four-speed gearbox. Just
in case you were wondering what the ‘Twenty’ means in the name of the car, it’s
simply means it’s a 20horsepower engine and depending on the weight and size of
the body put on it’s chassis, some cars were said to be able to go up to almost
100 km/h. But what makes this particular Rolls-Royce Twenty Tourer more
interesting is the fact that the current owner has got most of it’s history
intact which even includes when the car was shipped to Malaysia.
To give a
brief history, this particular car was shipped to West Malaysia (then known as
Malaya) in June 1926. It was then used in a rubber estate in one of the states
and even survived World War II. The current owner then acquired this piece of
history back in 1981 and did a full restoration which was completed in 1983.
Since then the owner has decided to keep the car around Malaysia and Singapore
to preserve it’s history and this Rolls-Royce Twenty Tourer is currently
believed to be the oldest surviving Rolls-Royce in good condition in this part of the world. So do enjoy the
shots I took below though I must admit that the car looks way better in real
life rather than in the photos.

are quite busy during this season.

Restoration - Mercedes-Benz W108 280S (part 3)
The part 3
of this series of articles on the Mercedes-Benz W108 restoration is certainly
overdue and it’s finally time to do it. If you guys have been following the
part 1 and part 2, this article will not be difficult to understand. Hahaha.. Well,
this is the last bit of this restoration project that I took on last year. Carrying
on from part 2 where I mentioned that the car was painted, the part 3 will
reflect it’s final touches in getting the car ready which includes getting all
the small bits polished and ensuring that the car will be a complete one once
ready.
Car in for some carburettor tuning
There were a
number of mechanical items to be sorted out which included fine tuning the
refurbished original Zenith carburettors, sending the fuel tank for a full
clean up, getting new clutch master and slave cylinders and a few more (I’ve
only mentioned what I would consider the major ones). Once all the above were
sorted out, it then came to the final cosmetic detailing which included a full
interior clean up and also a brand new set of tyres and to accompany the tyres
were a set of white walls and it’s sparkling colour coded chrome wheel caps.
It still
had a few more interior fittings to do before the car was sent to a motor show
for display and below are some of the shots of the car once completed. Some of
the photos may make the colour look a little different as they were taken from
different cameras but the first picture above is the most accurate one just in
case you were wondering what the actual colour looked like. All in all, I must
say it was quite a challenging time restoring this car especially when it came
to sourcing parts but it was well worth it. Now time to move one to another
project which may be another Mercedes or a Jaguar or perhaps, an American? Hhhmmmm...
Well, let’s see what time has in store...

MG MGB
MGB Roadster
Whenever
most people think about a small British sports car, the name MG is probably one
the most common makes that comes to mind. The MG Car Company founded in 1924
produced some of the finest sports cars during it’s glory days. As a follow up
to our earlier article on the MG TD 1950, here is another iconic MG known as
the MGB.
The MGB was
produced from the years of 1962 right up to 1980 and it was the replacement of
the equally famous MGA, which I will do a write-up later on. The MGB appeared
in two different variations, namely the roadster (convertible) and the coupe
(hard top) which was also known as the MGB GT. The MGBs came with a 1.8 litre 4
cylinder engine. All in all, close to 400,000 units of the roadsters and about
125,000 coupes were built. There were some cosmetic changes done to the front
and rear bumpers during it’s final years to adhere to certain regulations but
they were changes which personally I think killed the car’s good looks.
MGB GT
There was
also a very rare MGC model which had a 3 litre inline six cylinder engine and
during it’s two year production period only abut 9,000 units were built. And
finally during it’s final years, a 3.5 litre V8 Rover engine was put into a MGB
GT body and this has to be the rarest of all with slightly more than 2,500
units built.
The
pictures below are those of what is probably the best restored and kept MGB in
Malaysia. This particular car is owned by a very passionate owner who took his
time to restore it by sourcing for parts all over the world and finally to what
it is today. This particular car has won numerous awards in the Malaysian
classic auto-show scene. It may not be what I’m portraying in the pictures but
it’s definitely a stunner in real. Do enjoy the pics below and the attached
short video documentary.
