BMW 7 Series

The BMW 7 Series has always been the top end BMW produced. When comparing with other car manufacturers such as Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar and Audi, the 7 Series is the same range as the S-Class, the XJ and the A8 models respectively. The picture above shows all the 7 Series models ever produced until the current model.

Though I’m not much of a BMW fan, one particular 7 Series that has always attracted my attention is the E38 (pic above). Those of you who are fans of James Bond (which I obviously am), will remember this beauty. The car featured in ‘Tomorrow Never Dies’ was a 750i which was a V12! There were at least 6 different gasoline engine variations produced for this model which included the 2.8 litre 6 cylinder, the 4 litre V8 and of course the 5.4 litre V12. There also a few variations of the diesel engines produced. Some of the models came with the long wheel base (LWB) variation as well as a rare L7 model limousine which I’ve never seen on our local roads yet.

Looking for one to buy? Prices for the E38 start just around RM 20k but remember, you got to make sure you have enough money to maintain the car as well as to pay for the high road tax especially for the higher capacity models. There are also many models converted to Japanese engines, but it’ll be better to get one with the original engine in it or at least a BMW engine.

Below is an excerpt from James Bond’s 'Tomorrow Never Dies' and the one below that is the BMW short film ‘Ambush’ where this model was featured.
